Microsoft Disables Spectre Mitigation

Posted 29 Jan 2018 | No Comments | 1,074 views

If you have been feverishly applying Meltdown and Spectre patches, now you have one more to apply. Due to many reports of system instability from a recent Spectre mitigation, Microsoft has release an out of band patch to disable the fix. Intel’s fix for CVE 2017-5715 apparently can cause random reboots. Microsoft’s patch is for Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and all current server OS variants. Microsoft recommends waiting to appy the mitigation patches until Intel confirms that their fix has been stabilized.
