AT&T’s New Tracking System

Posted 28 Oct 2014 | No Comments | 1,655 views

AT&T is testing a new relevant advertising system. It works by providing a unique identifier to every website that you visit on your cell phone.  Kenn White has created a test page to verify the presence of the UID. AT&T does provide an unadvertized opy-out page, but it does not appear to work. Even after clearing cache and cookies and setting the Do Not Track flag in the browser, we still received the tracking UID. The best defense right now is to visit websites using HTTPS. Using local wifi also avoids the tracking UID.
