Unfair Advantage For MSE

Microsoft is now making Security Essentials via Microsoft Update to those that don’t have any antivirus application installed. MSE shows up as an optional download. Some antivirus vendors are feeling left out, claiming that Microsoft has an unfair advantage.  Microsoft argues that these installations are going to people that would not have installed any security product in the first place, and that some protection is better than none. These updates are only available to those computers with a genuine Windows license. Any computer running a pirated copy of Windows does not have access to Microsoft updates, and must be protected by third party software. MSE is a step up from the Windows Defender that is bundled with Windows 7.
