It’s official. The Macy’s Thansgiving Day Parade is over, and the Christmas season is here. Black Friday deals are published, and everyone is looking for a bargain. There will be plenty of amazing offers, and retailers will have plenty of door busters to get traffic. Unfortunately, the scammers are out in full force to take advantage of everyone hoping to save a dollar.

Avoid getting taken. Do your homework before you buy online. If a deal looks to good to be true, it probably is. As always, you should purchase from a reputable seller. If you are thinking of purchasing from an online auction, do some research into the seller. The Better Business Bureau and Epinons.com are a good places to start.

Look carefully at the descriptions of what you are buying. When the hot items start getting hard to find, the scammers will start substituting their own. This is the time of the year when people will try to sell the boxes or receipts for products to unsuspecting customers. With a bit of research, you can probably find that gift from a reputable seller.

If possible, pay with a credit card. The credit card companies has policies in place to dispute purchases and protect against fraud. Some banks also offer credit cards that can only be used once. Keep records of what you buy online. Those printouts might come in handy if you do have to dispute something.

Happy Holidays! And good luck finding that special gift.
